ABOUT ENERGY PSYCHOLOGY AND

TAPAS ACUPRESSURE TECHNIQUE (TAT)

What is Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT)?

Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT) is a form of energy psychology that involves lightly holding acupressure points on your head while moving your attention through a series of healing statements pertaining to a problem you would like to resolve (whether this is a challenging situation, traumatic memory, negative belief, chronic illness or any other form of emotional or physical distress).

By working holistically with the body-mind-energy system (via meridians, the brain, the biofield, attention and intention), TAT helps release energetic and emotional blocks and creates space around limited ways of perceiving and interpreting life events and conditions. Profound wisdom and insight commonly rise to conscious awareness in the process. Sometimes the release of blocks and movement of energy around an issue helps facilitate relief from physical pain as well.

Following a TAT session, one typically feels more peace with the past, more present in their body and with life as it unfolds, and more in touch with the power of choice available in each moment.

Personal Reflections on TAT

In my years of experience with TAT, I’ve come to appreciate it as a simple, but powerful home practice—a tool at the ready when you recognize a pattern of physical pain or emotional stress you’d like to release. And we all need tools. With all the stress and suffering in our communities and in the world, we can no longer rely solely on professional support (even though this is incredibly useful and valid). We need tools to regularly destress our systems. Just like taking a shower or brushing our teeth, we’re collectively coming to realize that our emotional cleansing is just as important as our physical cleansing. It allows us to be more resilient, more joyful—and more available to be of service on a day-to-day basis.

I find it beautiful that TAT sessions are intended to be on behalf of one’s entire family lineage—all of the ancestors, family members and anyone involved in the situation being addressed (whether one is conscious of all involved or not). The broad scope of this healing intention has helped me to see that personal healing efforts can be on behalf of a much larger community—and that some of the patterns I carry aren’t just my own. This has created a lot of spaciousness, awe and humility in my mindset. When I’m encountering challenges in my life, I’m less likely to think something’s wrong or broken with me and more inclined to view my concerns as part of the human condition we’re all working to understand, grow through, heal and celebrate.

EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE (EFT)

OR MERIDIAN TAPPING

One of the more well known and well researched energy psychology (EP) approaches is called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) or meridian tapping. This is a very simple, but profound approach that can be easily established as a home practice. Here is a video I recorded to lead you through session on yourself.

In recent news, the Veterans Administration (VA) now approves EFT treatment for veterans suffering from PTSD, anxiety, depression, pain and other conditions.
